Oral surgery is a specialty that deals with the treatment and ongoing management of irregularities and pathology of the jaw and mouth that require surgical intervention . Formal specialist training in oral surgery comprises a three-year full-time programme of training. Although the surgical removal of teeth is the most common procedure performed by oral surgeons, there is a broad scope to the specialty. This includes the management of hard and soft tissue pathology, oral infections, dentoalveolar trauma and oro-facial pain along with provision of surgery to support orthodontics and insertion of osseointegrated implants.If you find that you need some treatment that might take you out of your comfort zone, don’t worry, we can help. For people who are very anxious or perhaps just having some treatment that is more complex than they are used to, we can offer dental sedation.

Sedation is a pleasant way to get over your nerves. By using a medicine called midazolam in a vein in the back of your hand or inside your arm, we can help you cope with your treatment. Sedation is not going to sleep (a general anaesthetic) but it helps you achieve a state of deep relaxation when you can sit happily and complete your treatment with no worries whatsoever. You are still conscious and can talk to the dentist and nurses who will chat back when they need to. Best of all, the majority of patients get some memory loss during the procedure and so don’t remember very much about the treatment.
